Correspondence [manuscript]. 1875-1876.

The correspondence relates to the rescue by John Slade in 1875 of a British seaman, John Renton, from the island Malayta in the Solomons where he had been held captive by cannibals for 8-11 years. There is also a reference to Slade's death at the hand of natives in April 1876. The correspondence also includes letters to the donor, Miss Violet Pincham, from the British Museum concerning the papers.
